What is Love according to the Bible?
1Corinthians 13:4 NIV
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Jesus is the greatest example of Love; He carried our sins on the cross so that we could have eternal life. He was an example to all the above descriptions, As Christians we must be the example in this world by showing love to others.
Examples of LOVE
- Jesus HEALED THE SICK in Matthew 8:14-1514 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.,
- Jesus FED THE HUNGRY in Mark 6:41-42 41Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.42 They all ate and were satisfied.
- Jesus FREED the demoniac in Matthew 8:16 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
- Jesus KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS John 8:10-11 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you 11 “No one sir”, she said “then neither do I condemn you”, Jesus declared. “Go now leave your life of sin”
- Jesus PROTECTED his Disciples John 17:12 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by[b]that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
- Jesus was PATIENT 1Timothy 1:16 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Paul was reminding the Corinthians of the kind of love that they should have, a love that if demonstrated towards each other, would resolve their issues. Remember, Paul’s letters to the churches were to nurture, encourage, instruct and to correct their errors. Love leads you to pray, to sacrifice, to forget and to do the will of God.
God manifested himself in flesh as Jesus Christ so that his creation could understand the importance of LOVE and how much He LOVED us. Are you willing to love God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your mind? Remember! We LOVE because He first LOVED us.
